I always thought that one of the best things about travel was the fact that you could come home at the end. But on a recent trip to Spain I found the usually comforting sight Gatwick Airport’s Arrivals hall and its host of sunburnt returning holidaymakers slightly depressing. Maybe it was something to do with the fact that I’d been learning Spanish and had had a eureka moment when I realised that I could actually interact meaningfully with an entirely new host of people in their language. So my experience was completely different to previous ‘paella and a pool’ type Spanish holidays. It taught me the value of learning languages, not just for the sake of a better holiday (although its a perk!) but because through learning a language you inevitably learn about the culture of its native speakers which changes your whole perspective on your own.
Having finally got past the heinously airbrushed DVD cover and the thought of Emma Watson not being Hermione, I watched The Perks of Being a Wallflower the other night and was struck by this quote:
“We accept the love we think we deserve”
So, so true. Sadly I then googled it and realised it had been completely stolen and ruined by the sort of people who write quotes on pictures of sunsets….
and really love this font….
…and wear stuff like this….
Luckily, for every sunset-annotating, typewriter-owning, necklace-wearing idiot out there, there’s one solitary genius who takes a cracking good quote and makes it EVEN BETTER…
You know sometimes when you’re bored and you find yourself poking into the weirdest corners of the internet and something catches your eye and so you save it then you find some folder yonks later called something like ‘Stuff’ or ‘Random pics’ or ‘Internet’. I found this… painstakingly print screened from the video for Aroused by Tom Vek. There is the whole ‘you shouldn’t glamorise smoking’ argument but in this video its more like art than a scabby habit and looks brilliant.
Yikes she’s cool.
There’s something about that slow sink…
Did anyone else notice that the Royal Baby was A) born on a full moon and B) welcomed to earth by a socking great lightning storm? Coincidence – I think not, he is quite clearly a wizard (see fig. 1)
